大和北部八十八ヶ所霊場第二番。以前は護摩堂が二番だったが、護摩堂は老朽化激しく、護摩堂の本尊馬頭観音を嘶堂新築の折りに移し、第二番札所となった模様。馬頭観音は毎年3月中にのみ公開。護摩堂はその後解体、2012年9月に新築された。
